The Neuroprotective Role of Purslane in a chronic model of Depression Induced By reserpine in mice: Prevention of Behavioral, Mitochondrial and Neuro Dysfunction.

Portulaca oleracea is a universal species with broad range of biological activities, including antioxidant and neuroprotective actions. The present study aimed to estimate the effect purslane ethanolic extract (PEE) aqueous (PAE) on depression model induced by reserpine. Methods: Seventy five male mice were divided into 5 groups (15 each). 1st group control (C), 2nd treated reserpine 0.1 mg/kg (Res) as single dose at day 15th beginning experiment, 3rd Escitalopram 1mg/kg for 15 days plus Res latest treatment. 4th PEE 2 5th PAE g/kg Forced swimming test (FST) was performed 1 hour later after Results: Revealed data showed that significant (P>0.05) decrease in FST, brain monoamines [norepinephrine (NE), dopamine (DA) serotonin (5HT)], cell energy [adenosine triphosphate (ATP)] increase metabolic diphosphate (ADP) adenosine monophosphate (AMP)]. On other hand treatment amelioration comparing almost recovery group. Conclusion: Obtained concluded more potent than PAE, ameliorate act neuroprotective, neuromodulator stimulate secretion.
